Houston Grand : Fresh Pavement, Equal Pay, and Good Times

Written by Doogie Roux

The Houston Grand Criterium returned to Allen Parkway this year after a lengthy redesign and resurfacing project was completed. Racers from all around Texas enjoyed the smooth, clean, 1.6 mile crit course; while spectators indulged in the the recently completed Buffalo Bayou Park. To top it off, equal prize money was offered by Bike Barn to the men’s and women’s top competitors.

TBR’s Doogie Roux was able to capture the people, the racers, and the pups in attendance. Post-race he had a chance to catch up with a handful of Austin amigos for nourishment, liquid replenishment, and post-crit banter. Take a look!

When the hometown hero returns for the local crit.

Things are about to get haute…

About the author

Doogie Roux

Doogie Roux is a proud Cajun-Texan, does a lot of stuff, and doesn't sleep much. He’s a big part of the Houston cycling family, as well as a connoisseur of fine food joints in the Bayou City and abroad. He may lack the endurance that most of his competition maintains, but his bursts are incredible, and he always finishes strong. He continually dominates the "Handup Category" in cyclocross, all while producing decent photos and writing about amazing things. What he appreciates most about the Texas cycling community is its diversity and how it all comes together to create an amazing culture of love and acceptance in our giant state.
